Park Description
Big River Regional Park is composed of two campgrounds.
Cowan Lake Campground, located at the end of Main Street in Big River offers picturesque views of the lake and wide-open spaces to accommodate any size of camper. This campground has modern services, camp kitchen and a fish filleting building. We also have a playground for the children. You can fish off the town dock or use the boat launch free of charge.
The Community Center campground is on the north side in the town of Big River and has modern services with full serviced sites and non-serviced sites. There are also coin operated showers, laundry facilities, ball diamonds, horseshoe pits and playground. The large sites with mature trees bring a little of the quiet serenity to camping in town.
Local Services
The Town of Big River offers restaurants/lounge, garage/gas stations/convenience stores, grocery and liquor stores, pharmacy, banks, beauty salons, golf course, also a library located in our Community Hall, all within five blocks of the Community Centre Campground. Also available in Big River is our Health Center, Ambulance and RCMP.
Park / Area History
Started as a mill town, Big River was originally owned by a lumber company. The Big River Regional park was opened in 1978 by a group of dedicated individuals with land leased from the town and the rural municipality of Big River. The site was the old mill yard so there was lots of wood chips. Come check out how it turned out!
Barrier Free Access
We are wheelchair accessible at both Cowan Lake and the Community Centre Campgrounds.
