Join us at Manitou & District Regional Park on Sunday, September 13th for a special day of free drop-in programming, facilitated by Wanuskewin Heritage Park. This all-ages event offers a hands-on opportunity to learn about Northern Plains Indigenous histories, cultures, and teachings. No registration required!

Before modern conveniences, bison were a major source of food, tools, and shelter to Northern Plains Indigenous peoples. Students will explore Indigenous scientific knowledge, the evolution of hunting technologies, and the essential items that bison provided for day to-day life. This session offers a fascinating, close-up look at the resourcefulness and technological innovation of Northern Plains Indigenous communities.
Traditional Games 1pm – 2pm
In order to survive the challenging environment of the plains, children were taught survival skills through games. Students will try their hand at playing some traditional games to practice the hunting, physical, and social skills that were essential to survive on the plains. These traditional games offered a fun, engaging way for children to build the abilities needed to survive and thrive on the plains; and now you can experience them for yourself.
