Swimming Lessons

Swimming lesson registrations will be online.

The registration links will open at 7:00am on March 1st. To register, please select the link for the correct session and fill out the Google Form. You must fill out the form once per child. If you have to fill out the form multiple times (as when you have more than one child) please only fill out the camping and pool pass forms once. QR codes for these lessons are available in the swimming section in the recreation tab.

Park Description

Last Mountain Regional Park is situated at the north end of Last Mountain Lake, inside the oldest bird sanctuary in North America and home to thousands of birds. The park is a family friendly destination that includes an outdoor pool, aquatic program, nine hole sand green golf course, sand volleyball court, disc golf, shower house, laundry facilities and concession! The park offers seasonal and daily camping as well as a private cabin area. The lake is a great place for fishing and water sports.

Local Services

The nearby town of Govan offers a grocery store/liquor vendor with an ATM, a hotel with restaurant along with a golf course and museum. In the Town of Nokomis you will find a grocery store, credit union, pharmacy/liquor vendor, gas station, hardware store, hotel, restaurants, Nokomis Craft Ales brewery, vehicle repair shop, golf course and museum.

Park / Area History

According to the oral history of the Plains Cree, the hills to the east of Duval were the last things the Great Spirit built during creation; the name Last Mountain Lake commemorates that tradition. One of the oldest parks in the system, it was established in 1963 after three years of talks between the Govan Nokomis Fish and Game League and the province. There are now four local governments that provide funding. In 2021 we celebrated our 60th Anniversary as a Regional Park.

Barrier Free Access

Campsites are level grass/gravel. Wheelchair accessible washroom available at the concession. The picnic hall is wheelchair accessible.

Policies

Last Mountain Regional Park Camping Policies

Persons camping in the park must be 19 years of age or older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.  We are a pet friendly park, however dogs must be leashed at all times and owners must pick up their dogs waste. No dogs are allowed on beach, playground and pool areas.  The park charges a fee to use the boat launch.  Golf carts must be registered with the park, a registration fee is charged.  Golf cart drivers must hold a valid drivers licence. Quiet time is from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. LMRP water is non-potable. Potable water is available at the concession.

Camping

The campground includes 4 – 50 amp sites, 103 – 30 amp sites and 7 non-serviced/tenting sites. 51 of the 30 amp sites are designated seasonal sites. All sites are power only with many water taps situated throughout the campground. All sites have picnic tables and barbeque pits. All are located within easy distance of the pool, shower house, laundry facility, concession, playground and beach. Portable toilets are situated throughout the campground. Firewood is available for purchase at the gate office.

Group Camping

The park has a picnic hall for rent that can be used for reunions, weddings or other events. There is a full kitchen and indoor seating area as well as a deck and outdoor seating area. There is group camping available adjacent to the hall with power for 3 campers as well as plenty of space for tents. The camping fee is not included with the hall rented. The group camping area may be rented without renting the hall.

 

 

 

 

Golf

The beautifully groomed nine hole sand green course is an excellent course for any golfer. Golf carts are allowed.

Swimming

The park has a great heated outdoor pool with a diving board.  The lobby and change rooms were renovated in 2019.  The pool is open mid-June to mid-August (weather permitting).  Public swimming is held daily, times vary through the season.  Lane swim is offered Monday – Friday.  There is also a beach if you prefer to swim in the lake, no lifeguard on duty at the beach.

Playground/Recreation Activities

There is a youth recreation program offered throughout the summer. There are two ball diamonds, a sand volleyball court, frisbee golf as well as lots of green space! The park has installed 3 new play structures in the last few years including ones at the recreation hall and pool. There are additional playgrounds situated throughout the cabin area and at the beach.

Boating and Fishing

The park is equipped with a boat launch, large parking area and fish filleting shack. There are pike, perch, walleye, whitefish and carp in the lake. The lake is excellent for fishing and is known for Catching the BIG ONE!  It is a great area for water sports. Watercraft such as jet skis are permitted in the park and must operate north of the cabins or south of the boat launch only.  Fishing off the shore is allowed south of the boat launch.  There is a seasonal or daily fee for use of the boat launch.

Hiking/Nature Trails

The park is home to the only migratory bird banding station in Saskatchewan. The station is open in May, as well as August and September.  World Migratory Bird Day is held at the park in May every year.  The park is excellent for bird watching.  Last Mountain Lake National Wildlife Area and Migratory Bird Sanctuary (LML NWA MBS) surrounds LMRP, the headquarters are located north of the park.  LML NWA MBS is an important migratory stopover and breeding area for many species of birds.  Over 280 species of birds have been recorded at LML NWA MBS during migration.  The public is welcome to visit LML NWA MBS, which offers many public facilities including a self-service information kiosk, self-interpretive trails and a driving tour route with interpretive stops, in addition to opportunities for fishing, hunting, kayaking, hiking, bird-watching, wildlife photography, and nature study.  In 2021 a new observation tower opened immediately south of the park.  Hiking trails are located around the tower with a trail guide posted at the tower.
